The Institute for the Critical Study of Zionism — the newest Israel-hating organization — is hosting two conferences next month attacking the IHRA definition of antisemitism. The conferences are set to take place at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) on October 13 and at New York University (NYU) on October 14.
The IHRA working definition of antisemitism has been adopted by more than 1,100 entities, including more than 40 countries and 28 US states. NYU adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism in 2020.
The definition was authored by a team of experts and is the most widely accepted definition of antisemitism. It was adopted by the US Department of State during the Obama administration and the Biden administration recently reaffirmed the importance of the IHRA definition.
The IHRA definition of antisemitism reflects the experiences and beliefs of Jewish people around the world, and those are not up for debate. By attacking the IHRA definition of antisemitism and Zionism itself, the Institute for the Critical Study of Zionism is attacking the Jewish community’s right to define their lived experiences, their beliefs and identities, and the Jewish people’s right to self-determination.
We urge the administrations of UCSC and NYU to reaffirm their support for the IHRA definition of antisemitism and to condemn the hateful, antisemitic nature of the conferences taking place on their campuses. By doing so, UCSC and NYU can send a powerful message against Jew hatred.
