As antisemitism continues to skyrocket worldwide, the United Nations, an international body founded to promote peace and security, should be at the forefront of combating this hatred. Unfortunately, Jew-hatred continues to fester within the U.N. Commission of Inquiry — this time in the form of invoking the age-old antisemitic trope of Jews controlling the media.
Last week, a prominent commission member, Miloon Kothari, slandered the Jewish community in an interview with Mondoweiss, claiming the “Jewish Lobby” controls social media platforms. Although Kothari’s latest smear campaign against Jews is repulsive, it is far from the first time Israel and the Jewish people have been vilified at the U.N.
The Commission of Inquiry against Israel is a mockery of human rights. By routinely showcasing their bias against the Middle East’s sole democracy and blaming the Israeli “occupation” for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the commission’s members have routinely demonized Israel’s right to exist in peace and security.
Kothari’s bigoted remarks emphasize what we have known all along: the Commission of Inquiry against Israel is antisemitic to its core.
