Kanye West (aka Ye) has been on an antisemitic tirade for the last several weeks, spewing hate and conspiracy theories about Jews across a variety of platforms and contributing to a frightening increase in antisemitic rhetoric both online and off.
Adidas, Ye’s biggest partner, has so far remained silent on Kanye’s antisemitism and continues to release new Yeezy brand shoes. On the Drink Champs podcast last week, Ye boasted, “I can literally say antisemitic s***, and they can’t drop me. I can say antisemitic things, and Adidas can’t drop me. Now what?”
Adidas must answer Kanye. Other large brands including JPMorgan Chase and Balenciaga have dropped the antisemitic rapper. Adidas must do the same to make it clear that spreading hate will not be tolerated.
By maintaining its partnership with Ye, Adidas is showing that it does not care about Jews — an especially frightening message from a company that was founded by members of the Nazi party in Germany. Kanye’s spreading of blatant antisemitism and conspiracy theories is eerily similar to Nazi antisemitism and propaganda, and his rhetoric is fueling demonstrations from neo-Nazi groups. Adidas must not wait any longer to speak up and show its support for the Jewish people in the face of dangerous antisemitism.
